Introduction This upcoming year UAH will participate in the 10th Annual Intelligent Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Currently UAH's IGVC team is composed of members from MARS (Mobile Autonomous Robot Society). Our research platform is coming along great and will be completed by the end of this summer. We have high hopes that the UAH team will represent the school well as they travel to Michigan to compete in this National contest. This is a new event for UAH. Right now there are student with majors in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, and computer science. If you are interested in joining the UAH team please contact Dr. John Piccirillo jpicciri@eb.uah.edu. The contest will be held at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan in June of 2002. Background Info This is an annual event sponsored by an international, professional group - Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI). Basically, college teams build an autonomous robot to navigate an outdoor course laid out on a grassy field. The robots are between three and five feet long, may use vision systems, obstacle avoidance sensors, computer control, bought or home brew chassis, and whatever else it takes. This competition will be in it's tenth year for the coming event - June 2002.
